TO THE WOMEN OF GISBORNE

[To the Editor.] Sir, —“Total Abstainer” writes to warn women, against voting no-licenso lest if the .bars are closed, men will bring their friends to drink with them in their homes. This is quite contrary to the experience of those who live iii no-licenso towns. Rev. E. White-bouso says of Ashburton: “I defy anybody to point to any home to which drink is now admitted where it was not admitted under license. I can point to many places where it was -taken in the days of license, but whence it .is banished mow. And I challenge anybody to "point to cases on the other side.” The same thing has been found in other no-license areas. In Balclutha a committee was sot up to investigate whether molicense, which had been in fore© for 13 years had driven drink into the homes of the people, or -not, and after a, complete investigation the report of the committee stated that “No evidence has been adduced in support of such an assertion, and we cannot find a single resident who believes at.” This is .another of those specioiis boge\'s which are brought out to frighten people into voting for continuance, but it will not succeed. Peoide are beginning to know the facts too well to be thus misled.—l am, etc., “A WOMAN VOTER.”
