FAIR PLAY

[To the Editor.]

Sir, —In this morning’s issue appears a letter signed D. J. Barry, from the tone of which -and the innuendoes therein contained, evidently points to me as being the'author of a letter signed “Fair Play” in your issue of the 27th rust. I hereby publicly disclaim the authorship of such letter, nor do I know by whom it was written. You, Mr-Edit or, who must know the author, can hear me out in this statement. I will admit being the writer of two letters appearing in the Poverty Bay Herald signed “Fair Play” on the question of “Grazing-runs,” bub fail to' see what that has got ’to do with nolicense.’ ’ I presume Mr Barry has been informed of that fact -and arrives at the conclusion that- I mush also be the writer of the letter on “no-license.” Mr Barry concludes his letter by saying: “I pride myself on being a Briton, with a Briton’s love of fair play.” I also pride myself on being a Briton, and if Mr D. J. Barry is the gentleman I take him to be, he will publicly apologise, through your columns, for the gratuitous insult he has offered me by accusing mo of being the- author of a letter of which I know nothing whatever about. —I am, etc.,

G. J. BLACK

P.S. —I have looked up the letter to which Mr- Barry . rerers, and I think it is a splendid letter, and hold with every word tiierein expressed.—

G. J. B

[Mr Black was not the author of the letter referred to.—Ed. “Times.”]
