The Rev. E. Wbiteliouse, vicar of Ashburton, will occupy the pulpit in Holy Trinity Church to-morrow evening. A special service for children will be held to-morrow afternoon, at 2.45.
Several 'instance® of subscribers’ papers having been stolen from their premises have been reported at this office. A reward of £5 is offered for information leading to the conviction of persons committing such theft. The Gisborne Borough Council •notifies that a pound for dogs has been established on section 5, Palmerston Road, and that Mr. John Parsons lias been appointed poundkeeper and ranger. A gentleman interested in the Bay of Plenty election desired to obtain a copy of the roll for that electorate, but found it impossible to obtain one in Gisborne. He expressed surprise that in order to get a roll lie should have to send .as far away as Rotorua. Rev. C. Griffin’s subjects at "Wesley Church to-morrow are “A Contrast,” and “A Father’s Love.” There will be communion at the evening service. The Y r oung People’s Bible Class will meet in the afternoon.

At the Baptist Tabernacle to-mor-row, the pastor, the Rev. W. Lamb, who has returned from .attending the Baptist Union meetings, will be the preacher. In the morning the subject will be “Some Things Better Forgotten.” In the evening the subject will be “The Great Race Meeting; the Spectators, the Course, the Competitors, and the Prize.” A curious case of longevity of fever germs has come to light in Dunedin. A case of scarlet fever was investigated by the local Health Officer, when it was found that several children of a family were down with fever. The only thing to which the disease could be traceable was to some old wallpaper, which had been left on the walls of the house iu which tliere had been scarlet fever six years previously. Tlio old paper was stripped off for new, and the children played with it; scarlet fever followed.
Anniversary services in St. Andrew’s Church will take place to-morrow. "The annual collection for the building fund is to be made morning and evening, for which envelopes may be obtained from Mr. "Warren or in the church porch. Competitive plans for the new church and manse, of which thirteen have already been received, will be considered at the managers’ meetings next week. A meeting of the Railway Appeal Board ior the North Island was held at Wellington yesterday. Judge Lyre Kenny presided. Mr C £ Ryan represented the First Division and Mr. P Reddington the "Second Division. Thomas Bartosh, porter at \\ aipukurau, appealed against his dismissal from the service for alleged attempted theft. The Board reserved its decision. C. F. Hill, stationmaster at Masterton, appealed against lus position •in. the classification- list, on the .ground of the district officer wifholding u. certificate for promotion. Ilie Board decided that under the circumstances it had no jurisdiction to entertain an appeal .where the aggrieved person complained of refusal of promotion.
