The credit • balance calls for little comment, since the sports , are not ■held with the view of making money, and tho proceeds are wholly devoted to the prize fund., leaving only a small sum in the treasurer’s hands as a safeguard against contingent inabilities. The prizes gained at lastsports meeting were 'bought and sent out to the _ different schoqfs, in time to be distributed before the Christmas holidays. The Maraetuha School was fortunate enough to gain both the Caesar Cup and Mr. Nolan’s champion medal.—The Bennett Cup was won by Gore Porter, of Gisborne. For several venrs the Association has been indebted do the trustees of the Waerenga-a-hika College for the use of the grounds Tor the sports. Owing to alterations and improvements the College can not offer the (free use of the grounds as hitherto, but have kindly offered once again the use o-f the main paddock should thnt be sufficient for our purpose. Hast year some dissatisfaction was expressed at the hurried and early conclusion of the programme to suit the convenience of Te Karaka competitors, and ■it would be -well for your Association to settle this matter at its next general meeting. THE HEADQUARTERS QUESTION
[Piiess Association.]
CHRISTCHURCH, .Oct. 17
For some time past there has been friction between the Council of the New Zealand Athletic Association and some of the centres,, particularly Wellington land Otago. /The outcome was that the Wellington centre, sup- , ported foy Otago and Southland, nominated -Messrs 31. F. Larkin, F. Ross, A. Davies, W. Coffey, E. A. Dawson, A.' -Marryatt,- land W. H. Pollock for election to • the Conned, these candidates being pledged, to support the removal of the headquarters from Cliristcfourdh. to Wellington. When the secretary of the Association received these nominations he referred-them to the President (Mr. W. G. -Aback). That official ruled that as the custom hitherto had been to .receive nominations only from the place in which the headquarters of the -Association -were situated, the Wellington nominations could not foe received, as -in the absence of any specific ride the custom that had always prevailed must foe observed. The other candidate© were: (Messrs H. iS. Batchelor, J. F. Grierson, J. H. Aitken, G. H. 3'lason, J. ver, and -S. F. Vv 7 hitcomb. In order to save the trouble of an election, Mri Batchelor withdrew, and the .remaining seven, have been .elepted.'
[Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The 'Wellington centre of tOie New Zealand Amateur Athletic. Association at a special meeting last night decided to enter an emphatic _ iprotest against tfhe. president’s - nailing -that Wellington candidates nominated -to the Council are ineligible because they do not 'reside at headquarters. The returning officer is to foe asked to explain hie position as returning officer and candidate. The centre insists on the returning officer proceeding with fho election according to the -rules. The general opinion of tho meeting was that this matter should foe • fought to the bitter end, and unless itho president reconsidered his Tilling tho centre must consider the question of seceding from > the Association.
