POLITICAL MOTES.

MAORI NOMENCLATURE.

[Special to “Times.”]

WELLINGTON, October-11

The Nomenclature Committee reported to the House that owing to tho shortness of the session and other work on committees they have not been able to devote as much attention to their wol"k as they desired. A subcommittee revised the Maori names of railway stations and post offices. The Committee recommended that somo officer be appointed whoso duty it will be to keep a record of all place names in the Dominion with tlieir history and associations, and that a Nomenclature Committee should bo annually appointed. Some bad - blunders have apparently been made in the spelling of Maori names, particularly in the South Island. For instance, Akaroa. should be Hakaroa, Holionui should be Hokanui, Ivaiapoi should be Kaiapoliia, Iburow should be Ko'hurau, Lake Tekapo should be Takapo, Manaixrari should be Manawapore, Otago Heads should be Otakou Heads, Tapanui should be Tapuaenuku. POULTRY FARMS. A statement of the expenditure and receipts in connection with the State poultry farms shows that these institutions are being run at a considerable monetary loss. The following are the particulars, the larger amount in each case representing the expenditure and the smaller 'amount the, receipts. Ruakura £651, and £405; Moumahaki £524 and £428; Burnham £742 and £452; Milton £1259 and £498. The total expenditure was £3278 and the total receipts £1784. RETIRING ON PENSIONS.

Notifications of the retirement of the three following officers of the public service on pensions, were given ill papers laid on tho table of tho House on Saturday night. Mr. J. H. Sheath £293 6s 8d (post and telegraph department) from May 1 1909; Mr. Jas. Delaney (post and telegraph) £199 10s from April 1 1909 ; Mr. T. A. Murphy (Customs) £IBO from November X 1908..
