The TJ.S.S. Co.’s Squall arrived from Tologa Bay and Auckland yesterday morning and came alongside the wharf early in the afternoon. Sho met with very heavy weather on lier way down the coast. Work at Westport in pursuance of the fiptition of the stranded steamer Taviuni is proceeding. The vessel has now been moved about 600 feet towards the breakwater, the recent north-westerly gales having lent valuable assistance in theishifting process. She is now lying almost high and dry at neap tides. Shifting sand around the Taviuni is a difficulty that has to be; contended with, and facines have boen erected around the storn of the boat to keep it in place. The vessel has to be moved some distance inshore yet, and the next move is towards the breakwatir—a matter of 400 ft. It .is honed to complete the relaunching on the next new moon spring tides. What is asserted to be a world’s record in coaling was achieved at Durban on August 10, when 2200 tons of coal were placed on the Kenilworth Castle ir*. eight working hours.
