WELLINGTON, October 2.

A Bill amending tho Public Works Act, 1908, has just been circulated. Provision is mado to enable the Government, as well as local bodies, to take land for the purposo of paddocking driven cattle. Tlio Bill provides that, notwithstanding anything contained in nart XII of tho principal Act or in the Post and Telegraph Act, 1898, the .Governor may, from time to time, by Order-in,-Council, grant-'to any person or body corporate a license to Itso water from any falls, river, stream, or other source for the purposo of generating electricity for electric light, mechanical power, or other use. Such license may bo granted either in perpetuity or in such fixed period with or' without a right of renewal as tho Governor thinks fit. Tlio Bill further makes provision for power of purchase by ,tho Crown front tlio liconseo. The lieenseo is to ptv compensation for any injury to land. • . -tt
