SYDNEY, October 2. The Premier, replying to a. deputation from tho churches asking him to do something to prevent prize O lights, said that the law countenances ♦ boxing, and it was impossible to obtain evidence that- a contest was a prizo fight tili it had begun. The Government was oioti f n sympathy with anything that degraded -he community, hut in endeavoring to stop 'occasional abuses of a legitimate practice it might bo penalising a legitimate pastime. It would bo'unwise to introduce .legislation, but the Government would see that tho law was not abused. The Premier informed a member of the deputation that he did not think the Burns-Squires fight was a prize fight. ,
