ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.

SECOND SUBSCRIPTION CONCERT.

The Gisborne Orchestral Society will give tho second subscription concert for the present season in His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening next. The Society has been hard at rehearsal for some tiino and will, on tiiis occasion, submit' a varied programme- of vocal and instrumental music. The instrumental items will include Bulfo’s overture “Scige of Rochelle,” a fino transcription of Roubardi’s “Alla Stella C infilldelate,” a grand march from Tito Mattei’s opera “Maria do Grand,” and a- movement from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt.” .Selections of -a more popular ■nature will bo given from Leh.ir’s •light 6pera “Tho Merry AVidow,” tho music of which has proved most fascinating, and from Sir Arthur Sullivan’s evergreen opera “The Gondoliers,” all of tho most favored music being introduced. A distinctnovelty -on the programme is the duo for harp and piano, Oberthur’s “March F-antaisie,” this being the first time such a duet has been attempted in Gisborne. The vocal contributors to the programme are Aliss Blanche Garland, of Auckland; and Air. AAL Johnson Brown, of AA’ellington , both of whom figure prominently in musical circles in t-lieir -respective cities. Aliss" Garland will sing Batten’s “The Love Song of Har Dyal” and “Yo San” (Woodford Findeu), and ill the second part of the . programme Dainton Dolby’s “Out on the Rocks.” Air. Brown-, will sing Noel Johnson’s “The Bose and the River” -and a Kashmiri song from Woodford Finden’s “Indian Love I.vrics.”

The society his been most successful in its efforts to please its subscribers, and the excellent- programme arranged for Tuesday evening next has met with such approval that the hooking has been exceptionally heavy. The society wisely gave the preference of booking seats during the first two days the box plan was open to subscribers, but from to-day to the date of the concert subscribers can procure extra tickets from the secretary (Air. J. Chrisp), and they will act wisely in hooking their seats early, as the box plan is rapidly filling lip.
