BOROUGH MILK SUPPLY.

TESTED BY THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT. GREATER CLEANLINESS ASKED FOR. Sometime last month the officers ol the Agricultural 'Department in Gisborno collected samples of milk from various milk vendors and dairies doing business in the Borough, ami Mr. Walter Millor, Inspector ill charge ol the Department, sent tho samples to the Government Analyst for analysis. The report has just come to hand and goes to show that the quality of tho milk vended in tho district ds good. .Tho standard quality of butter fat that milk should contain is 3.7 per cent., wliilo tho percentage of butter fat. in tho samples analysed ranged from 4.1 to 5.1, which is well over the 'requirements, and shows that the cows in uso are first-class and there is no adulteration. The Department asks that milk vendors should pay greater attention to cleanliness, both as to milk utensils and tho cow-yard. Tho hands should also bo frequently washed, and the milking parts of the cow .thoroughly cleansed before milking is commenced. If these simple matters ,Wero attended ,to tho milk supply .would give little room for complaint. . .
