The spirit of patriotism is in the air (says the “New Zealand Times”) and now and then it manifests itself in so mo new quarter amongst the second generation. Its latest product is tlie creation of a volunteer corps at Victoria College. The students met- in some numbers last night to discuss with Colonel Bauchop tho question of-the formation of a College rifle club. Tlie meeting was, however, strongly in favor of going a step further and forming a volunteer corps. The discussion, was conducted with much spirit, and the mooting was clearly of the opinion that the best work could ho done in this way. Colonel Bouchop, in the course of a forceful and interesting speech, referred to tho approach of compulsory universal service and the advantages of volunteering. At the dose of the meeting over twenty members handed in their names for enrolment in tlie proposed corps.
