ROTORUA OPPOSITION. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 17. At -last night’s meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, a letter was received from the Rotorua Rod and Oun CI-üb_ inviting the society’s cooperation in opposition to a proposal AP-'V’-w-i? M.P., that- free fishing rights m all lakes and streams be granted tlie Maoris of the Rotorua district at all tunes of the- year It was feared that if such a right was conceded m Rotomn a simi’-ar demand won d bo .made by Maoris in all parts of tlie Dominion. Mr. G. R. Ritchie spoke strongly on the matter, and stated that if the suggestion of the !i xt T!o,lllotlf "’as carried out, tlie Natives would bo enabled to sweep all tlie rivers from mouth to source with nets at all seasons of the year, and tills clean out every acclimatised fish. After further discussion it was resolved that the sec rotary and Mr Ritchie draft ale«er ot protest to the Governutentt.
