THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
THE HUItUNUI SEAT. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHUIICH, Sept. 14. Mr. Geo. T. Pulley, a candidate for the Hurunui seat, addressed a meeting of electors at Asliley on Saturday night. He announced himself as a supporter of the present Government. t)n the liquor question he said the trade should he under State control, and “shouting” should be made illegal. He added' he was a protectionist, und believed in protecting the farmers —the mainstay of the country. The Government should not allow wheat to come into the country under 4s a bushel. He was opposed to Bible-reading in schools, and also to the repeal of the Arbitration Act. The candidate was ’accorded a vote of thanks. THE BRUCE SEAT. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Sept. 14. Requisitions hearing over doO signatures hare beeen presented to Mr. J. Loudon, asking him to contest the Bruce seat in the Liberal interest at the general election. Mr. Loudon is conferring with friends in both the Taieri and Bruce electorates and will probably arrive at a decision in. a. few days. Menders of the Lawrence Liberal: Federation, along with delegatee from the Bluespur and Evans’ Flat branches, have selected l Mr. A. IV. Tyndatle, of Bluespur, as a- ca-ndi-date for the Bruce seat. AN 'EDEN CANDIDATE. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND. Sept. 14. Mr. J. IV. Shackleford, the Government candidate for Eden sent, addressed the first meeting of electors at Avondale on Saturday. He expressed general approval of the present administration, and mis accorded: a vote of thanks.
