DEFENCE CADETS.
A general meeting of the Defence Cadets was held in tlie Drill shed last evening to say farewell to Captain Cowan, who has resigned command after holding his commission for three years. Captain Cowan addressed a tow words to the boys in appreciation of their work, and at the conclusion was heartily applauded. Tho cadets then officially elected Lieut-. Somervell as second lieutenant, and he will, with Lieut. Doyle, take command. The company lias now been established nearly eight, years, and are a very smart corps. \ They recently purchased new uniforms at a cost of over £IOO, and as the capitation allowance lias been, risen from 5s to 12s 6d per year, they have been able to pay off the liability and have a small credit balance. At the recent inspection by Colonel Davis, the company gained the distinction of being the only Defence Cadets, .outside school defence cadets, to receive praise for all departments of tlieir work, the Inspecting Colonel expressing great satisfaction with their appearance, general discipline and drill.
