An endeavor was made on Saturday fq issue eight writs on behalf of eight hotelkeepers against the Gisborne Times Company in connection with a paragraph that .appeared in these columns recently. However, the fates were good to the “Times” in this moment of terrific onslaught, and the attack proved futile. Its failure was due t<> the fact that the Supreme Court office closed at midday whereas the solicitors for. the plaintiffs assumed it would be open until 1 o’clock. Saturday, it might be mentioned, was the last day upon which writs could-be issued in connection with the sittings of the Supreme Court to be held next week. Any issued subsequent to that date cannot he heard until six months later except in such cases wherein both parties to a dispute consent to the shorter notice.
