WANGANUI, Sept. G. Tim Supremo Court sittings closed on Saturday night. Judge Chapman sat late every day of the week hearing civil eases. A number of judgments wore reserved. WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, John William Bishop, alias Brown, who was employed as fireman and greaser on the steamer Rotoiti, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing from tho Royal Hotel, Wellington, a Gladstone bag and contents, valued at £25, the property of ChiefDetective Mcllvcney. Accused was romnnded to tho Supremo Court for sentence. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. G. Tho Primo Minister has informed tho Canterbury Chamber of Commerce that ho will receive a deputation at Wellington on the 14th nist. in connection with tho South Island Main Trunk railway. Delegates from various local bodies in Blenheim, an<l the adjacent districts, and also from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, form the deputation. Mr. H. L. A. Mackintosh, second officer of the British Antarctic expedition ship Nimrod, has made a comploto recovery from the eltects of the distressing accident whereby ho lost an eye when the vessel was landing stores on the.ice in tho fai South. Mr. Mackintosh has been granted a commission in the Jtoyai Naval Reserve, the Admiralty authorities evidently considering that the loss of his eye will not debar him from performing any active sen vice in His Majesty’s navy. Shortly alter tho return ot the Nimrod from the Far South, Mr. Mackintosh went to Sydney to undergo special .treatment for his injury, and ho is st-il. in that city, but it is understood that ho will rouru to Lyttelton, probably in November, to rejoin the Nimrod for her second voyage to the AntaictlCA, bookmaker named Ja S k Gill was fined £5 to-day for betting with a boy.
