Sheridan, J-P.’s, n man named John Hamilton for a second conviction of drunkenness within six months, was fined 10s with 2s costs or 48 hours imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against him by conso*t. A first offender for drunkenness was dealt with in the usual manner. The members of Lodge Turangaiiui, U.A.0.D., hold a very successful progressive euchre tournament in the Masonic Hall last evening, there being a largo attendance of members and friends. The first prizes were won byMrs. A. Wade and Bro. Bnwlinson; while Miss Nock and Mr; J. The total membership ol Si. John Ambulance Brigades 'throughout the world, in„ 1900, was 15,711, and m 1907 it was 16,008. A noteworthy fact is that ill the whole Dominion ol Canada, no ambulance brigades connected with Hie St. John Ambulance Association were in existence, but steps wore being taken last year to form a brigade at Toronto.

A largo number of young folk and their friends assembled last night in the Baptist Tabernacle on the occasion of tlio Sunday School entertainment. The Rev. IV. Lamb occupied the chair, and an excellent and varied programme, comprising songs, duets, and recitations, was gone through, the different items being heartily applauded. Several gramophone selections were given by Mr. J. H. Gittos on a nice instrument, and a display or sleight-of-hand tricks and modern magic by Air. Alalcohn completely mystified the audience. A very pleasant evening was spent, the gathering terminating shortly before 10 o clock. Air Flatmau, it seemed, had been trespassing in his electorate, and this ho regarded as base electioneering, liis honorable friend s hide, he suggested, would make good saddles. Air Flatmau returned to tlio House a few minutes later, and replied with much heat. Saddles were generally made of pigs’ skin, ho said, and lie hoped Air Hardy would understand the remark.

Tho artistic arrangement of the chow windows is tho work of Mr. V. 'Harre, a specialist, whom Air. ionoycliffe engaged in Christchurch. Un the ground floor and upstairs in the show rooms arc armyed tho most oewitching displays of the • very latest fashions in the different departments. Tho whole display compares favorably with anything that could bo seen m any of the large centres, and the ladies of Gisborne are fortunate m possessing such a completely stocked and nroorossivo establishment to supply then- wants. The display is certain to attract a large crowd to-day.
