The 'wharf presented a busy appearance yesterday, when discharging operations were in progress simultaneously from the schooner AVianui, ketch Coronation, and scow Zingari. Some anxiety for the safety of the Union Co.’s barque Locli Lomond is now being expressed in shipping circles, says a Southern exchange. Forty-six days have now elapsed since' the vessel left Newcastle, N.S. W., for Lyttelton, but up till the present no news of her his been received. So far as is known, the vessel lias not been sighted since she left' Newcastle on July 15, but it is thought that she may possibly have been driven away to the northward by the southerly and south-easterly winds which were prevalent in the Tasman Sea for some weeks. The Loch Lomond, which is considerably overdue, is commanded, it is understood, by Captain Thompson. Mr. J. Miller, of Lyttelton, has begun a general overhaul or the Antarctic exploration ship Nimrod in order t 0 tit her for her trip to the Far South early in December. Caulking is being carried on at present. and it is expected that the vessel will be put into dock early next month.
Tho U.S.S. Co.’s Squall arrived in the Bay yesterday afternoon from Tologa Bay and Auckland, and came alongside the wharf at 9 p.m. on the night tide, successfully negotiating the channel without touching the silted bottom. She brings a large general cargo for this port, and it is expected that she will leave again this evening for Tologa.Bay and Auckland.
