DRUNKENNESS

Two first off ending Natives_ woro convicted and wore each fined os anil 2s costs or 24 hours imprisonment. A man named James Tait, for a third conviction within six months, was sentenced to 7 days’ imprisonment with hai-d labor. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A HORSE. A native named Charlie Wilson plondod guilty to the abovo charge and was convictod and fined £1 with costs 11s or 4 days’ imprisonment. Twenty-four hours wero allowed accused in which to pay the fine. OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE. In connection with tho arrest of ono of tho first offenders for drunkonness a Nativo named Joseph King ploaded guilty to a chargo of obstructing Constablo Pratt in tho execution of his duty. Sorgt. Hutton detailed the circumstances of tho case, .and accusod was convicted and fined £1 and costs 2s in default 4 days’ hard labor.

PROHIBITION ORDERS. After convicting James Tait of drunkenness His Worship issued a prohibition order against him, and in another case, after hearing; evidence; an order was made on tho application of defendant’s nephew, tlio grounds being that defendant, by excessive drinking, did misspend, waste, and lesson his ostato. CIVIL CASE.

Somo time was occupied in the hearing of tho case in which AVilfred Sandlant (Mr R. U. Burko) proceeded against John David Robscko to recover the sum of £9 18s for work dono and material supplied. The claim was made up- of items disputed by defendant in an account for the supply of waggons, and for repairs and accessories. The main question was one of guarantee, the defendant claimin'; that ho did not "guarantee tho axle or any part except that which was made in his factory. Evidence was called for the defence to show that it was customary to include t-lio axle in the guarantee. His Worship held this view and gavo judgment for plaintiff for £6 15s lid, tho amount claimed, less £3 2s6d, the price of the now axle, and costs £2 19s.
