UNITED STATES FLEET. ARRIVAL AT MELBOURNE.

Tlio reception of the United States fleet was productive of the scenes of enthusiasm witnessed at Auckland and Sydney. For a week visitors have been pouring into the city, and before daybreak people began to stream out towards the bay. By 11 o’clock, when the Connecticut led the warships through Port Phillip Heads, the hulk of Melbourne residents wero congregated along the. foreshore or aboard the myriad of craft which covered the hay. The white fleet was greeted with unbounded enthusiasm. > 0 Mr. Deakin. Ministers and members of the Federal and State Parliaments aboard a vessel, met and accompanied the fleet to its anchorage off Gellibrand Lighthouse. There was fine .weather, and the gaily-dressed shipping contributed towards producing a magnificent naval pageant. The usual salutes were fired. , . . ,c, During the afternoon Admiral .Sperry landed at St. Hilda nier. and paid - an official visit to Sir I. Carmichael, the Governor, and then returned aboard the flagship.
