Miss M. O. Stoddnrt, a Canterbury artist, is exhibiting a number of sketches in water colors at To Ran College. Many of the land and seascapes aro local, and tho subjects have been treated with a broad brush ami depicted in a wealth of color. Miss Stoddnrt is one of the low Now Zealand artists who have exhibited at the Royal Academy and Paris Salon. She received her training in Europe, and her work closoly resembles the Dutch and the French impressionists school. The pictures are on sale today only, as Miss Stoddnrt returns to Cautorlhiry to-morrow.

A mooting of tho directors of Tho Gisborno Co-oporutivo Bakery Company, Ltd., was held last night, when it was announced that sufficient shares liiul been subscribed to enable the company to commence business at unco. It is the intention of the company to tako over Mr. Hailey’s business on Tuesday next, Ist September, and to give an immediate reduction in tlie prico of bread to all shareholders whether holding one sliaro or more. There are'still 1750 shares available to tho public, and- the secretary, Mr. C. G. Piessc, requests that -early application bo made, either at his office, or to Mr. W. Lissanb Clayton.

A largely-attended meeting was held in iho Rangitiru Hotel, To Kura ka, last evening, to consider tlie formation of a trotting club there. It was decided to establish a club, and that officers bo elected at a meeting to be held next Thursday evening. It was resolved to hold a trotting meeting on November 9th, subject to a permit being obtained from the New Zealand Trotting Association, and a programme will bo submitted to the next general meeting of members. The promoters are enthusiastic over the prospects of the club, and already some fifty members lmvo been obtained.
