COSMOPOLITAN CLUB.
LADIES’ EVENING. A very successful musical evening was held at tlie Cosmopolitan Club last evening, when the social hall was crowded by members and their lady friends. The President (Mr. C. H. Ambridgc) said a few words of welcome, and expressed regret that, owing to the many recent attractions, the committee had thought it unwise to proceed with the concert previously. During the evening tlie President presented the champion ouclire player, Mr. 1). It. DcCosta, with a leather medal, on which was inscribed tlie words, “For Valor,” Air. DeCosta having lately won the euchre tournament at the club. In response to calls for a speech the genial “David” briefly returned thanks, and said he hoped he would long maintain the honor of being champion. A firstclass musical programme was "one through, songs being contributed by Mrs. Barry. Misses Hansen and Soloon, and Messrs Coivlrick, H. H. DeCosta. Williamson, Zacliariah, Wilkinson, Citron, Knibb ; and Austen, and a recitation by Miss A. Evans. In—strnmenal items were contributed by Alessrs Vita, flute splos Alessrs Vita and Swallow, banjo solo Air. Stebbing, who, for an encore, played a selection on a violin manufactured by himself from a cigar box. The accompaniments were tastefully played by Aiiss McElhonc. At the conclusion of the programme Air. Ambridge, on behalf of the members, thanked the visitors for their attendance, and expressed pleasure at seeing so many ladies present. A very pleasant gathering terminated after the singing of the National Anthem.
