POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION

Tho ususal weekly -meeting of tho Aluiageinent Committee of the Poverty Buy Rugby Union was held last night in tho Alasouic Hotel. Present: Alessre li. E. Alaudo (Chairman), J. S. AVauchop, C. Morse, J. A. Eaton, L. O. Ingram, H. Puflett, G. K. Pasloy, IT. Bright, W. 11. Brady, and E. L. Alaudo (lion. sec.). An apology was received for lion-at-teiidanco from Air. W. Johnston. The minutes of tlio previous meeting wero road and confirmed. A wire was read from the secretary of tlio Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union, -and also a letter, filially fixing the date of September stli for tho ropro'sontativo match with Poverty Bay.— It was decided that the secretary write to the New Zealand Rugby Union asking them to appoint -a referee for tlio match, and suggesting Air. L. F. 'Williams, of this town, or Air. F. Poglor, of Hastings. Tlio secretary of tlio New Zealand Rugby Union wrote enclosing cheque for tho expenses of tho Union’s delegate to tlio annual nieoting of the governing body. It was decided that the use of the ground bo given to tlio Kaiti-City third fifteen to play tho Napier Pirates, third fifteen in a curtainraiser match prior to tho senior representative match on September stli.

Tho New Zealand Rugby Union wroto asking for details of tlio offence which ended in the disqualification of a line umpire recently in a junior match. —It was decided that the secretary supply the desired information.

A further letter was received from the secretary of tlio New Zealand Rugby Union regarding the account rendered in connection with the Anglo-AVolsh match in this district, and asking for further information. —lt was decided that the secretary be instructed to reply giving the necessary information. A player was passed for tho City Club. The lion, secretary of tlie Alhambra Club wrote stating that the Club would bo unable to continue in the Thursday competition.—lt was resolved that the letter be received with regret. Tlio use of No. 2 ground on. Thursday next, at 1.30 p.m., was granted for a match between tlio employees of Alessrs J. 11. Ormond.and Co. and combined blacksmiths. On tho recommendation of the selectors, Air. A. P. Kaipara was elected captain of the representative tea, and Mr. AVatclioru vice-captain. It was also decided that' Air. Kaipnra take charge of the team in practice. The Union decided that they would grant £ls towards the expenses of the junior representative team to Napier. Also to wire the Hawke’s Bay Union if they could arrange a match for September 12th, and asking for their consent to a match with Hastings oil the same tour. It was decided that the goal posts on No. 1 ground he shifted for the Hawke’s Bay match. RUGBY REFORM. AN OTAGO RESOLUTION. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, August 24. The subject of professionalism came before the Otago Rugby Union tonight by reason of a letter being received from a gentleman who threatened, if the committee did not deal with the matter, he would take steps to call meetings of delegates of the committees in order to run local football on proper lines or under the direction of a South Island Union. Considerable discussion was evoked on the matter, the committee being unanimous to tho extent that •an endeavor should be made to meet the problem in the direction of improving the existing game from tlie spectators’ and players’ point of view. The following motion was pas-sed—-“In the opinion of this committee it is desirable that a special general meeting of the New Zealand Rnghy Union should bo convened to discuss the question of the proposed amendment of Rugby football, and that the necessary steps be taken by this committee to secure tho co-op-eration of two other affiliated unions in having a meeting called.”
