DROWNING FATALITY.
WOMAN’S BODY FOUND ON THE BEACH.
Early yesterday morning Sergeant Hutton was informed that tho body of ■a young woman had been discovered on the Wai'kanao Beach, some distance this side of tho abattoirs. A native first saw the body, but the inIqrmalion was conveyed to the authorities by Mr. Kinnimont, of tlio abattoirs. Later on in the day tho body was identified as that of Mrs. Jane Macloay, who had been reported as missing from her lodgings since Saturday evening. Deceased’s husband, who is a tailor by trade, has been absent in Auckland for some time, and it appears that liis absenco had to come degree preyed upon the mind of deceased. No marks of violence were found on tho body, and it is surmised tliut it is a case of suicide, and tho suggestion is that deceased may liavo got into the water either from the breakwater or tho groyne, and the body washed ashore where it was found.
At a late hour last night no arrangements regarding an inquest had been made, but it is probable that it will be held to-day.
