Tlio city is simmering with excitement. Strenuous efforts are being made to complete the preparations before the arrival of the Ileet-
The transportation of tlio enormous crowds to the coast-lino and harbor foreshores will tax to the utmost the tram and steamer facilities.
A big ileet of steamers has been engaged to moot and escort tlio warships. Tlio weather promises to be line. The city wears an exceedingly gay appearance. Lord Northcote forwarded by wireless telegraph the following messago to Admiral Sperry: —“On beihalf of tho Commonwealth I tender a hearty welcome from the whole of its people to the American fleet, which represents so magnificently our friends and kinsmen of the United States. 1 hope you have had a good voyage from New Zealand, and on arriv.i i you will receive an enthusiastic greeting from this part of His Majesty’s Empire.”
