Repairs to the fan-house are proceeding rapidly. A rescue pirty meanwhile Uoseemled into the Wigan Junction colliery, lialf-a-mile distant, which communicated with No. 2 Havpole, and penetrated several hundred yar<Ls towards the wrecked workings. Approaching these the air became almost unbearable, and heavy t'hl'.s from the roof impeded progress. Several dead ponies and then three dead miners were found, one being so terribly mutilated as to be unrecognisable. Tlio explorers were unable to speak with certainty of the condition of the mino as regards after-damp, although five members of the party suffered therefrom.

It was announced at 3 o’clock this morning that all hope had been abandoned.
