New Zealand and Victorian agricultural authorities arc at present at variance because t-lie former declaro that they have found coiriothecliium cliomaloaporum in a. case of Victorian apples. This is regarded (says the ''Melbourne Argus”) by the Victorian officials as a serious " thing to say, and they liavo asked the New Zealand officials to prove their words. The Victorian Government vegetable pathologist (Mr. Ml Alpine) has examined an apple from file, case which has caused all the trouble, and he declared that the New Zealand inspectors have mistaken natural marks on the s'kin for eoniothechiuni ehoinalosporum. Mr. M’Alpino says the apple is quite free from disease. The New Zealand authorities who refused to admit the case of these apples over which the disagreement lias occurred did not keep samples of the “diseased” fruit, and they point out that they cannot, therefore, prove anything. The Victorian authorities havo now suggested that a sample should be kept next time, and sent over hero as a curiosity. The disease, they point out, has never been found in Victoria.
