MARKET GARDENER SHOT.

. AUCKLAND, August 6. At Mount- Roskill last night, a Chinese market gardener named All Jing was shot at close range by his mate, Louie lang, and seriously wounded. A bov returning from 'Mount Roskill school yesterday afternoon looked into a cottage occupied by two Chinese market gardeners, Aji Jing and Louie Yang. Ho saw Ah Jing stretched out on the floor with a gun beside him. When investigation was made, Ah Jing was found in bed. fully clothed, with air extensive wound in the abdomen, tho flesh being seared so that it wa6 evident he had been shot at close range. The wounded man asserted that Louie Yang shot him. Apparently there was a fierce struggle,- the bed being covered w ith blood, and the curtains were torn down. The stream culminated in a pool where Ah Jing fell. Ah Jing said the quarrel arose owing to much talk owing to Louie Y’ang lying in oeu while lie worked. { ‘There was much talk,” ho added; “we fight in bed.” All Jing is in the hospital, and his condition is very critical. Louie Yang was arrested this morn in"at Panmure. He had one hand badlv cut.

'J Ins afternoon the arrested Chinese, Lome Tang, was charged, before Mr. Dyer, S.M., with attempting to murder lus late confrere. The depositions ot the wounded man were taken. He slime that lie and accused had quarlelled and bail come to blows. Accused then rushed to where the gun was kept, whilst witness secured a' mtclier s knife. Accused then shot linn. \\ it ness s next move was to take away the knife, and breaking it presumably, as is was found broken. Accused was remanded till the 13th
