SOAP-MAKINGG.
A LOCAL INDUSTRY. Soap and water are, or should he, as great daily necessities as food, for while the old adage says that “citanlines is next to Godliness,” d odern science says it is before. Gisborne is one of the few town in iiio Dominion that possesses a fully-equipped soap factory, and a “Time” mj.Uitor yesterday paid a visit to the Lynda Soap Company’s works at Kaiti, where he found soap in every variety being manufactured. The" works are managed by Mr. A. S. McLeod, who has had considerable experience of his trade, which requires a fheiough scientific knowledge of ti e sapo.-aci-ous value of fats and oils for soapmaking purposes. Mr. McLeod has been a soap-maker all his bfe, hsiino been practically born .Mo the Ut-de, and to make himself an expert in the ousiness _ho studied, sct*u\ce and obtained his science degree in the University of New Zealand. The result is that the Lynda Soap Company is now able to place upon the market laundry, household, and fancy soaps equal to anything manufactured an the Dominion or imported from other countries. (Many people have a prejudice against local manufactures, but a. visit to the Lynda soap works convinced the reporter that the soaps are all cleanly manufactured, and free from adulteration. Among the manv brands are the “Sweet-briar,” a hardwater soap for laundry or household use, and guaranteed absolutely pure from injurious ingredients, chemical or otherwise. The Company’s new soip, “AYoletta,” is another splendid line, made from pure palm oil, and is specially adapted for washing "(ools and woollen garments. The “lakitimu” brand is also a pure household and laundrv soap, -while among ,tlio cheaper brands are “Prize MedM, ’ “Peerless,” and “HouseIrii-' -Among the specialities arc Micro, a medicated disinfectantand antiseptic sora'p, suitable for the hair, and hath or bedroom use. This soip contains unusual medicative properties. and is recommended for use on children attending school, and for bathing cuts and wounds. Sand soap :s another useful household lino manufactured, while a specially recommended laundry soap is 'tho Lynda Rainbow brand, a soap guaranteed equal t 0 any imported article. The Company also manufactures soda crystals, soft soap, borax, barilla, carbolic shaving and fancy soaps of vatin Cr !
