LANTERN LECTURE.
“AN HOUR WITH MY MTCRO,SCORE.” Holy Trinity Schoolroom was crowded last evening when Hr. Gerard Smith gave a most interesting lecture ontitled “An Hour with my Microscope,” in aid of the Parish Magazine Printing Fund. The Vicar (Rev. L. Dawson Thomas) occupied the chair, and briefly introduced the lecturer. Dr. Smith explained that the pictures he would show were not drawings, hut photographs taken by the aid of the microscope, and he detailed the various forms of insect and parasite life, and shov ed, by the aid of a limelight lantern, magnified protoplasm shells from the ocean, sections of sponge, of insects, various parasites that live upon, animals and insects, portions of bees, wasps, -fleas, butterflies, spiders, gnats, and other small creatures. The lecturer explained how the insects used their various claws and logs, how* they -propogated, breathed, and digested food. The lecture was both educative and entertaining, and at the conclusion Dr. Smith was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
Previous to the lecture a short programme of music was given, in which Mr. L. Brown sang ''The King’s Minstrel,” (Mr. A. Williamson “The Deathless Army,” and “Courage,” aid (Messrs Brown and iDalrymple the duet “Farewell to Summer.” Mr. Harold Piper acted as accompanist ; and Mr. Robjohn manipulated the lantern.
