WOOL AND HIDE SALE.
The Now Zealand Loin, and Mercantile Agency C 0.., Ltd., Messrs Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Bonnett and Shorratt-, Common, Shelton and Co., Ltd., and Dalgoty and Co., Ltd., held a s ilo of wool, hides, skins, and tallow in the Farmers’ Club room, Masonic Buildings, yosterday afternoon. Tho auctioneers drew for precedence to sell, and, eight buyers wore present. Few lots were passed in, and most of the hides and tallow was sold without competition t 0 Messrs Warnock, and Co.; Auckland. Tho wool on sale was moktay ciutchings, lambs’, and bellies.
Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile AgoncyCo., Ltd. (Mr. Bright) offered about 30 bales, pockets, and bags of wool of various descriptions, which sold at from ljd to 4(d per lb. the majority being quitted at from 3d t<> 3Jd per lb. Over 60 parcols of skins wero olfored, and met with good competition, at from 2£d to 4sd per lb, a few poorer lines sold at l£d per lb. Four bundles of hides brought from 2id to 3jd perlb, tallow from 18s to 20s per cwt. ■Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Mr Wachsmann) offered about 50 bales and bags of wool, of mixed descriptions. Better sorts sold from 3Jd to -lid por lb, slipo and locks from ljd to 3(d per lb. Tlio skins wero made up in about 70 bundles, and brought from 2d to 4d per lb, and singly from 2s 9d to 3s 3d each. Hides sold at from 2d to 4d por lb, tallow from 16s 3d to 20s 3d per cwt, bones at 3s per cwt.
Mr. Wyllie autcioucered for Messrs Bennett and Shorratt, and sold about 40 hales and pockets of wool at from 2Jd to 4d per lb, 70 lots of skins at from 2d to 4d -per lb, and singly at 2s Id each. Messrs Williams and Kettle, Ltd. (Mr. Wyllie) offered about 40 bales and bags' of wool, mostly of better sorts, which 6old at from 2d to 45d per lb. Their catalogue of skins contained 130 lots, which realised from 2d to 6d por lb, and from Is 8d to 2s 3d each. The hides and tallow wero sold to Messrs Warnock Bros., at valuation.
On behalf of Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., Ltd., Mr. Ingram offered 50 bales, 10 pockets, and 32 bags of wool of the usual winter descriptions, -which sold at from 2d. to 4d nor lb. Sixteen hundred skins, made up into about 170 lots, brought from lid to 4d per lb, and from Is 9d to 2s 9d each. The hides and tallow were held for private sale.
BUTTER. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND. August 4. A further advance of a/half-penny per pound brings tho wholesale- -price of butter to Is 3[d per- pound, but with a 'continuance of tho present mild weather the supplies will soon ho largely increased.
, GOLD EXPORT’S. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 4. The export of gold from ‘New Zealand for the past seven months was 297,037 ounces, valued at £1,175,524, or an increase of 17,201 ounces, valued at £66,296, over tlio figures for the corresponding period of llast year. During last month 42,220 ounces, of the value of £167,553, wero exported as compared with 52,966 ounces, valued at £212,809 during July of lastyear. Last month’s export of silver was. 119,492 ounces, valued at £12,077, as against 116,741 ounces, valued at £12,188 in the corresponding month of last year.
