A SPLIT IN MAHUTA’S CABINET. THE “PREMIER” DISMISSED. > [Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 4. Evidently there has been a split in the Native Cabinet, of which “King” Mahuta continues to be the nominal head. The points in dispute have not been made public, though _at a meeting held recently at Waihi, the result is apparent in the following notice, which has been handed to the press for publication, and which bears the imprimatur of Ahuriri, Minister for tlie Waikato District All tlie people of New Zealand should understand that Tupu Tanigakawa, son of Tamehana Te Waharoa Tarapipipi, is struck out of King Mahuta’s Government.” Tanigakawa lias acted as King Mahuta’s Premier for some years, and, as such, presided over the great native meeting held at Waihi last year, as well as the -meeting held recently at Waharoa and attended by tlie Governor .the Prime Minister (Sir J. Ward), and tlie Native (Hon. J. Carroll). It remains to lie seen whether the Warwick of Maori politics will now join the Arawas and others who refuse to acknowledge tho sovereignty of the Native King.
