Mr. William Weddell has been appointed -a member of the Meat Committee, which is to enquire how far and in wlvat manner the general suplily, distribution, and price of meat m the United Kingdom are controlled or affected by combination of firms or companies. MELBOURNE, August 3. Tho State Government issued a writ against the Federal Government to test tho constitutionality of the Surplus Revenue Act. A similar writ has been issued by West Australia. PERTH, August 3. The bakers have struck, owing to the refusal of the masters to introduce day work. The operatives have started a co-operative bakery.
