THE AMENDMENTS APPROVED

CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. A meeting of the Committee of Management of the North Canterbury Educational Institute was held on Saturday. The chief business was tile discussion on the new salaries as provided in the amended Education Bill, considerable interest being shown in- the provisions of the Bill. uS,? following resolution was passed: That the North Canterbury Educational Institute heartily approves of the three cardinal principles of the Education Amendment Act now before the House a 6 outlined below—tlie reduction in the number of gradof schools whereby the danger of reduction, to salary due to circumstances over which teachers have no control, and arising from fluctuations in average attendance, is largely minimised; (2) the principle of annual increments, os offering an incentive to earnest effort on tile part, of , cll £!' s . a, 'd thus tending to increased efficiency in the service; (3) the unproved staffing regulations, especially as regards tlie substitution of trained assistants for untrained pupil teachers.” It- was decided to forward the above resolutions to the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the Education. Committee.
