THE EVERITT BENEFIT.
BANDS’ OPEN-AIR CONCERT.
The warm sunshine yesterday was especially pleasant for fan open-air band concert, and a largo crowd of people came out of doors to bear the massed band concert arranged by .tlio Gisborne.Rrivfite Band, in aid of the Everitt Benefit Fund. The Gisborno Private Band, the Gisborne City Band (under Conductor Lawrence), and the Salvation Army Band (under Bandmaster Jones) took part, and marched from 'Derby Street down Gladstone Road to Trafalgar Rotunda. This was the first time the Gisborne Private Band was seen marching, and under the comluctoreliip of Air. D. MoKillop, they made a creditable display, being 24 members strong. The City Band, -which was in uniform, an is 20 members strong, and the Salivation Army Band had about tho same number. At tlio rotunda the bands played alternatelly, each contributing two items. The Privito Band played the selection “Golden Sceptre” (Greenwood) and the waltz “iSenta” .(L. Raymond), and in the procession march “Ingomar.” The City Band’s items were “Mount Washington.” and “On the Alert,” a selection. from Stephen Adams’ songs, 'arranged bv Ord Hmnc, and the march “‘Challenge”; while the Army Band contributed the march “Simplicity,” an arrangement of sacred music, by iStnff-Captain Gore, of Melbourne, entitled “When the days are going by,” and “Heavemviird,” a piece arranged by .Depnty-Bamliiwis-ter Hayes, of Sydney. The .music was weill played by all the hands, and tho audience lappHaudcd each item. During the concert the committee of the concert went round with collection plates, and 'when all was counted it was found the public had generously responded to the sum of £ls IDs. To Air. C. J. Bollen and the committee who worked hard to ensure the success of the concert, and to the hands that 'assisted, a great deal of credit and gratitude is due. At the close of the concert the Salvation Army and the Gisborne City Bands joined and played the quickstep “The Avon” on tlie return to the firebel;!. The fund willl bo .further augmented by the receipts from tho concert to ho he’d in His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday evening next,' August 10th. An excellent programme will he submitted, and a hinge number-of leading performers have volunteered to take part. The object of the concert is a most worthy one. and it is hoped the public aril] charitably respond,
