GISBORNE PRIVATE BAND.

LEAP YEAR SOCIAL. Tlio popularity of the series of soci lls which (have been held at intervals during tlio winter h.v the Gisborne Privato Band, in Has Majesty’s Theatre, was again shown last evening, when a novelty in the way of a “Leap Year” dance was held. The programme consisted of 22 dances, and for tho dances previous to supper •Alesdamcs Can tell niul Nelson and Aliss Pilcher acted as Al-C.’s, aiul the ladies engaged partners and generally assumed the etiquette usual to gentlemen. The (idea was a novel one, and, as tliore were about 80 couples on the floor, proved very enjoyable. For the second half of the programmo the gentlemen assumed tlieir usual place in ball-room manners, extra programmes being issued for this purpose. Alessrs A. Sawyer, Fletcher, and H. Dumfoy acted as AI-C.’s. The music for the programme dances was supplied by the (Gisborno Private Band, under the conductors]!ip of Air. I). AlcKillop, and was much appreciated. Air. Rogers played the cornet solo parts dn tlio music, and Mr. AVootten’s orchestra, Miss Haycock, and ’Air. Masterton played for the extras. The floor was. in firstlclass condition, an excellent supper was laid, the tables being nicely decorated. Mr. C. J. Bollen, boil, secretary to ‘the Band, worked hard to ensure the pleasure of all present, and to him a great deal of .tho success of the social is due.

The d nice was so successful, that, in response .to a general request from those present, the committee of the Band has decidd to hold a dance’ in the Theatre again this evening, when popular prices will be charged.
