THE POLICE EVIDENCE.

WESTPORT. July 29. At tho hearing of the perjury case against Connolly to-day, Detectives Campbell anil iMcl'lveney and Inspector Black gave evidence denying that Gaoler Canyon Iliad stated that HaJinen and Andersen wore innocent men, and that Connolly ought to have been arrested. Mcllveney and Black also stated that 'Airs, l’earco at an interview made sonio mention to them about 'uncustomed tobacco, hut the latter stated she knew nothing about the men changed with tho inurdor of Bourko.

'Constable Keenan gave evidence corroborative of Constable Butler’s, that .an examination at the back of McLaughlin's shed revealed no traces of footprints, and said that when he arrested Connelly on the night of tho inurdor for breaking a window of the 'fish shop he did not notice any mud on hie boots and clothes that he would liavo expected to lind Iliad Connelly gone, as alleged by Mrs. Poarce, through tlie gate and the paddock at the back of McLaughlin's shed. Some other evidence of an unimportant nature was given. Connelly gives evidence in the morning.
