The -conference resolved that no democratic Electoral Reform Bill would be satisfactory unless it extended the franchise to every adult man and woman. IRISH UNIVERSITIES BILL. PASSES THIRD READING. United Press Association. Copyright LONDON, July 27. In the House of Commons the Irish Universities Bill was read a third time. •> Air. Redmond warmly praised Air. Birrell for solving a problem that had foiled Air. Gladstone, and added: “We all admire a man of courage. Tho Nationalists will never forget Hr. Blrrell’s services to Ireland.” Amid Nationalist cheers, Mr. Balfour, in a few graceful words, sup- / ported Air. Birrell. He said the main outlines of the Bill were such as lie always wished to see passed. It was a great and courageous effort to deal with a crying scandal, but he feared that owing to the affiliation of' Ataynooth with Dublin University the latter might fall unduly under clerical control. Air. Birrell said he hoped the new University would play a great part jn educating ia famous race. Last Saturday’s sitting was devoted to tho Einanco Bill, which was read a third time. Aleanwhilo the Universities Bill was read a first time in the House of Lords.
