CHARITABLE AID.
A BOARD IN DIFFICULTIES. BANK REFUSES AN OVERDRAFT [Special to “Times.”] WELLNGTON, July 27. Mr. M. Stevenson, chairman of the Dunedin District Charitable Aid Board, is at present in Wellington, a difficulty having arisen in connection with the administration of the Board. The Board has made tlio levies on the local bodies for the year as usual, but these are not yet returnable. It lias been usual for the Board to carry on for three months with the assistance of the Bank, but on this occasion- the Bank has refused an overdraft, stating that there is no legislative provision for such overdraft. ‘ The consequence is that the month’s cheques have become payable but there is no money available to meet them. It was hoped that the Government would, under the circumstances, pay the subsidy in advance but as there is no authorisation for the payment that cannot very well be.done. It is understood that an effort will, therefore, be made to get the authorisation in the next Imprest Bill which is due in a day or two.
