THE NORTH POLE. COMMANDER PEARY IN SEARCH THREE YEARS ON THE ICE. United Press Association, Copyright (Received July 19, 4.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 18. Commander Peary has sailed in tho ship Roosevelt from Sydney (Cape Breton) for the Arctic. Ho declares ho will spend three years in his attempts to reach the North Pole.
[Commander Peary is well known to tlffi world by his previous attempts to discover the North Pole in 18981902. lie has made a number of explorations in Greenland and in the Arctic regions, and in 1901 ho .rounded the most northerly known land in the world, and' reached the highest latitude yet attained in tho Western Hemisphere. He holds tho post of Civil Engineer, United States Navy, with the rank' of Commander, is President of the American Geological Society, and is a member of many other Geological Societies in different countries.]
