DISEASE IN STOCK.
A VETERINARY LODGE,
A largo number of members of the Farmers’ Union met in the Club rooms oil Saturday aftomooon todis--0111 >s the advisability of subscribing t 0 a fund to engage the services of a qualified veterinary surgeon who would bo always available to give udvico and treatment in eases of disoaso in dairy herds and other stock. Mr. W. I). Lysnar occupied the chair, and in explaining the object of the mooting, said there was a good deal of disease, such as inilunmation and milk sickness, among dairy .herds, and he thought it would bo a wiso thing for the members of the Union to subscribe to a fund to engage a qualified veterinary to give advice and treatment. The subscriptions proposed were that farmers living within a radius of 13 miles from Gisborne should pay one guinea a year, and.beyond that,,distance two guineas a year, in addition to travelling exponses. If one hundred subscriptions could be raised Air. Luttrell would ho willing to act, although the engagement of the'veterinary could be loft until the full subscription hid been obtained. The fee was very moderate, and while the subscribers would have to bo members of the Farmers’ Union, any farmer could join the Union, and take advantage of the fund. Messrs Swainson, Field, and Little supported the suggestion, and a short discussion took place upon the question of obtaining a qualified veterinary. _ - Mr. Field moved that a qualified veterinary bo engaged for the farmers of tilio district, and Mr. Little 'seconded tho motion, which was carried. The subscription list was then circulated, and- largely signed.
