A MODERN IDEA.
A STATE MEDICAL SERVICE. ADVOCATED BY AUCKLAND -DOCTOR. [Special to “Times.”] AUCKLAND, July 11. Dr. Deck, in the course of an able lecture delivered at Waihi. strongly advocated State medical service, placing the whole of the medica? service on the same footing as post offices and railways. From the public aspect, he said, if would cniblo every mail, woman, and child to obtain direct services of a specialist in every branch of medical science. He advocated the making of all hospitals free to such cases as deserved hospital treatment and care, thus doing away with the present .existing farce of filling up and wiping off enormous sums in bad debts annually, as was done in Auckland and Wellington. "With regard to Waihi. was it not a scandal? lie asked. Tw 0 thousand pounds in bad'debts had to bo written off in five years.
