The “Prince Chap” Company ie due to play in Gisborne on J uly 27 and 28.

Tho quarterly meeting of the Ancient Order of Rechabitcs will be held in the Odddfellows’ Hall this evening, at 8 o’clock.

The lease for seven .years of tho four sections of land /.it Patutalii were offered for sale b,v auction by tho Hawke's Bay Land Board at tbo Lands Office, Gisborno, yesterday. There was no competition, and the blocks went to Mrs, Mary A. Stevons, the owner of the adjoining sections, at tho upset price. iSection 86, ILuigaroa, was also leased to 'Mrs. Edsi E. Hollywood at tho upset price.

Tho necessity for new gaol accommodation in Gisborno is becoming a pressing necessity. Last evening tho gaol was quite full, and tho police cells were also partly full. On an evening or two previously not alone was tho gaol full, but the cells were taxed to their utmost capacity, and if a single additional prisoner had been brought in tho authorites would have been hard pushed to find accommodation for him.

At a. political, meeting in Marlborough last week a newspaper representative who had travelled l.i long distance to report tho proceedings, was surprised when a 'resolution was carried thanking him for his attendance. The blushing representative in acknowledging tlio compliment, admitted that it wiis somewhat unique for a newspaper man to bo thanked for anything.

Mr. H. D. Bedford met the Gisborno No-Licenso League in Townley’s Hall yesterday afternoon, to discuss a system of working tbo electorate in ,the interests of tho cause. The Rev. F. AV. Chattertou occupied tho chair, and tho mooting was of : semi-private nature. Mr. Bedford outlined plans for pushing on the campaign, and it was decided to hold monthly mootings of tho League to recoivo’ progress reports from tho workers.

Mr. S. A. Shaw, who returned from a visit to Wnihi on Monday, states that owing to the flood prospects showing in tho AVailii Company’s mine it ns intended to call a meeting of those interested in the Waihi East Company to discuss tho advisability of forming the syndicate .into a public company so as to raise capital to develop the •mine. A nicotine of shareholders will probably be held on Saturday next.
