ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association was hold in tbo Club rooms on Saturday , liioiiung. The .President, Mr T. Tlio hearty thanks of the Association is due to those gentlemen who acted as Judges and Stewards at the Annual Gathering, and also to the Auditors and treasurer or their good cervices. The aid rendered by all who have taken part during the past year materially assisted ill the success gained. ' . . The Association is also greatly indebted to those who generously made donations to the prize fund, and thus enabled more substantial inducements being offered to exhibitors ):han the means available wou.d otherwise have allowed. ... The number of exhibits still continues to increase, as will be gatlieyed from the usual summary:

The Fat Ca ttle Cup was won finally at the last show by Mr J. Clark, the Fat Sheep Cup by 'Messrs Barker Bros., and the Eat Lamb Cup by Mr W. Jobson. It is anticipated that new cups for these classes will be competed for at the next Show. The nominations received for the Committee were Messrs W. Bell, D. Kirkpatrick, E. J. Lysnar, W. D. S. Macdonald, and H. G. / Tucker,,and oeing equal in number to the vacancies, ' these gentlemen are duly elected. The balance-sheet showed members subscriptions £572 ss; entry fees £209 14s 6d, gate receipts £242 7s, sale of privileges £lO6 17s 9d, and donations £284 3s 4-d; expenditure: Show employees £55 14s 6d, labor £33'ss 6d, Show expenses £B9; printing and advertising £103; prize money £282, leaving a credit balance on the years’ operations of £282 10s 4d. A number of members complained that a report had been circulated that the president had been elected. Both Mr Holden and the secretary stated that no such report had‘appealed in tlie “Times,” and they were not responsible f o r such rumours circulated.ELECTION OF PRESIDENT.

The election l of the President for the ensuing year, Mr W. D. S. 3iacDonald moved and Mr G. Witters seconded that Mr T. Holden be president. '

Mr W. D. Lysnar nominated Mr F. B. Barker, who declined nomination as he had promised not to oppose -Mr Holden. - * iMr E. iM. Hutchinson nominated Mr W. R. Barker who also declined to stand. ; Mr Holden was then declared elected and briefly returned thanks. He said that lie had no intention of. standing again: this year, but he: had been.requested to accept nomination. He would 1104, however, stand for tlio position next year. If any ■members iiad > anything to suggest in the way (if improvements, he would only be too pleased to place them before the. committee. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were then elected:—Vice-president: Mr. F. B. Barker (re-elected unopposed), Treasurer: .Mr 1). Morice. Auditors: Messrs W. F. J. Anderson and A. F. Kennedy. JUDGING. AT SHOWS. * Mr W. D. Lysnar said that sometime ago lie liad suggested to the committee that judges should not be allowed to hold a catalogue, so that they might see whose stock they were judging, and that' stewards should not exhibit- in a class for which they were appointed to actr'.He had not seen the suggestions adopted. A number of niembers disagreed with the suggestions as a. reflection on tlie integrity of the judges and stewards.

Tho Chairman said the Association engaged competent judges, and tli-ev wore always men who did their work honestly. The committee would, however, discuss the question.. Stewards had power to • ask a judge not to have an official catalogue in his hand when lie was in the . ring.' Mr W. D. (Lysnar said there should be a rule giving stewards that power. iHe saw judges', for sheep and cattle usmg a catalogue; ■'Mr. C. A. Fenwick, steward for the sheep classes, denied that - the judges used a catalogue. Mr F. Lysnar said one judge had ins son in the prize ring with him, and they would argue over the points Pi x, e exhibits together and invariably the father gave in to the son. A .number' of members repudiated the statement. Tho Chairman said the committee would look into the matter and the discussion dropped. Mr.- J. L, Perry drew attention to the good work done by the secretary, Mr H. M. .Porter, and said lie. would [ike to see him receive a- bonus or ah increase of salary. . A, number of members expressed similar views and the matter was reterred to the committee to deal with.
