WOMEN SUFFRAGE IN ■ENGLAND. It is usually considered tho correct thing to-deprecate anything in the nature of violent agitations rsucli as are at present being carried on by those women who. desire tint the franchise should be extended to their sex in 'England. Speaking generally, it may properly bo argued that constitutional mot-hods should bo followed, but unfortunately these do not always succeed. In the present case the women suffragists of England have for tit least a decade been working steadily for the political rights of their sisters, and until they' commenced their outdoor demonstrations they had not appreciably neared their goal. One ministry after another put them off with vague Statements that were, nothing more than subterfuges, till finally, they became entirely disgusted with the tactics of those in power. One does not like to applaud exhibitions of disorder and lawlessness, particularly when these are attributable to what has usually been considered the “weaker sex”, hut ttlio fact remains that eighteen mouths of strenuous agitation has accomplished more than many years of persistent hut peao.able propaganda. It is not a particularly inspiring spectacle, this attempt on- the part of women to “bully” the mere men into the concession of legislative privileges, but a large share of the blame may fairly be placed on the 'shoulders of those British politicians who have deliberately blocked a (legitimate reform.
