CO-OPERATIVE BAKERY.
[To the Editor.] Sir, —For some considerable time past, correspondence lias appeared in your paper relating to the high prices charged by the bakers for bread, and as a remedy most of your correspondents advocate the starting of a co-operative bakery. I think I am corect. in saying that many of those who complain the most, have not availed themselves of the benefits of the existing Co-operative ■Society''by taking up shares, and thus enabling the Society to add u bakery branch to their present business. This lias been an object aimed at for ft considerable titno past, but has had to remain in the hack ground for the want of more Support. 1 understand- that the civil servants in Gisborne are moving in the matter and that the required number of shares will probably be secured shortly, but I would strongly advise the movers not to attempt to carry on the business as a separate concern, but start it as an offshoot of the present Co-operative Association, thus strengthening the position ail round. The site is everything to be wished for, ample room for additions, a good working stiff, and a most capable manager with a committee consisting of representatives of all classes of the community t 0 guide affairs, as is proved by the great success of the business after starting on such a small capital. 'Wishing success to the movement. 1 am, etc.. „ . “KAITI.” Ivaiti, .June 27.
