HOCKEY.
_ I'lie hockey competition was continued yesterd iy on , No. 2 ground.. The weather was wretched, but the ground was not in bad order considering the refcent heavy rain. WEST END 3 v. KIA KAHA 1. This, as -was expected, proved a very interesting game, anil although AA’cst End were poorly represented, they showed that they had the better team. They fought hard, and after some good play the hill was sent to Malloy in the Kia Kalla circle, and lie promptly shot a good goal. Buoyed up 'with their suc r cess West End. again attacked the Kins, and, in spite of Garrett’s and Petrie's good defence,'Payne got the ball into Kii -Kalla’s net. The Kins tried hard to make tilings more even, and Semple drove the ball between the AVcst End posts. West End 2, -Kai Kalia 1. In the second spell both tides strove hard to alter the score. Tabernacle, Bright, and Grant took the ball into AVest End’s territory several times, but Roderick and Olsen were too good on the defence, and got the ball luck to Hooper, who, with Nasmith and Cramp, gave Coleman and Garrrett plenty to do to keep them in check. Just before the end of the second spell Hooper made an excellent run through the Kia Kalla’s backs and drove the hall into their goal. Air. Armstrong held the whistle, .. ' Til« RAU 2 v. OITA* I. ed like scoring several times, but Smith. Morris, ami Armstrong defended well,, the latter, especially, showing excellent form. They, however, wero beaten twice, Rewiu and Pine each scoring a- goal. Lewis, ■Knibbs, and Morris attacked well for City, land tho hall was centred to Bull in To Rail’s circle, and a goal -was scored. City tried hard to equalise matters, blit Hamilton' and 11akawai wore equal to the occasion, and no furthor seoro resulted. Mr. Olson refereed.
