ARRIVAL AT PALMERSTON , NORTH. AN ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. [Press Association.]] . PALMERSTON N., June 18. iPalmerston North was on fete today in honor of the arrival of tlie Governor to take up liis residence here for tt -period of two years. Lord Plunket arrived from Napier by the 2.45 train, and was welcomed b” the Mayor (Mr. Nash), the member for the district (Mr. AV. T. Wood), and the Town Clerk (Mr. Colling Wood). He was driven to the show grounds, where a gathering of upwards-of five thousand people had assembled. Tlie Mayor and- Mr. AV.. T. Wood publicly welcomed tlie Governor and Lady Plunket, and the Town Clerk read ,ari address presented to the Governor by the citizens. Lord Plunket delivered an address thanking the people for the welcome, arid saying that he looked forward with pleasure to spending two years in their midst. The Governor was driven to his residence at Hokowhitu by a route round the Square, which was gaily decorated for the occasion. Probably a citizens’ banquet will be field at a future date.
