A NEW SUPERINTENDENT. > MR. ALEXANDER Mcl-NTOSH. [Special to “Times.”] WELLINGTON, June 17. Mr. .Alexander.Meintosh, who, it is stated on good authority, lias accepted the position of superintendent of tlio Now Zealand business of Dalgety and. Co., -Ltd., is a man well-known and highly esteemed in eommerical and financed circles, both in Australia and New Zeaßiud. -He -began hi:; banking career in, and for many years was an officer of, the Comnicric.il Bank in Sydney, in institution which is one of the most important of its kind in New .South Wales. Ho rose to the position of a senior manager, which he occupied for several years! Eventually ho left the service to assume the general managership of tlie Royal Bank of Queensland. Subsequently ho was appointed by the Seddon ad ministration to tlie important position of auditor of tlie Bank of Now Zeiland, and afterwards he became genera] manager of the institution. A few years ago lie resigned that office and returned to- Sydney. He had not been- long resident in New South Males when the Government of that-State, recognising his-fi-nancial .ability -and integrity, offered him two positions, viz., -a' Commissionerslfip on the Public Service Board and the presidency 0 f tho Post Office Savings Bank, a, now institution, which now has a largo and growing business. Mr. Mclntosh was very successful in his management of that institution, but it is understood that ho came into conflict with cer:iin politicians who were desirous of serving their constituency through the medium of the -Bank. Being'’;! mm'of the strictest integrity, ho refused to listen to their’ representations, and it is understood that he thoroughly vindicated his position. Some of the facts have been made public, and though it is not officially stated, it is generally understood that the Government was very gratified with the stand lie had taken up. It is understood tint since ho has had tho Savings Bank management in New -South Wales Mr. Mclntosh has been offered and declined two very important and responsible 'positions in New Zealand, and it is not unlikely that tlio management of Dalgety and ,Co.’s is ono of these. Ho has excellent qualifications for tlio position, and his return to New Zealand will be hailed with general satisfaction. A DEFINITE ANNOUNCEMENT. United Press Association.
