THE OYSTER SUPPLY.
DISSATISFACTION AMONG DEALERS. RUSSELL OYSTERS ONLY SK'IN -AND SHELL. [Special to “Times.”] AUCKLAND. June 1,7. - In connection with the supply of oysters from tlie Auckland beds (the control of which is now in the hands of the Government), strong dissatisfaction is being expressed by some of the dealers with the quality of the bivalves which ate being obtained from the -Bay of Islands. The following tele-gram -was sent to Mr. Ayson, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, yesterday : “Russell oysters small black rubbish, unfit- for use, and we cannot get AVaiheko oysters- -unless we take half Ru-sse-lL rubbish. - There -a|Ve plenty of good oysters at Russell. Please remedy things.” Another dealer says the Russell oysters were large enough in shell, but that there wa-s practically only skin inside. Whereas, lie said, a sack of Waiheke oysters will provide from 18 to 20 bottles a-sack,* the “Bussells” would not -give more than 8 or 9 bottles -a sack. He added that tho men who are employed at opening and bottling them have totouch them as- they can make nothing out of them.
